Clean Up in Progress

Website is re-opened, but I am still cleaning up. There have been a few changes:

Ranking is now based on reviews and the reviews will be picked up by Google (in time you'll see some "stars" next to your Chan on Google's search results. Some Chans already do this.

I added additional categories. Please categorize your Chan appropriately. Select "Other" if you don't know where it should go. Eventually this will become another SEO feature. TopChan is optimized to provide Chan owners maximum results, Chan users to locate the best Chans, and of course for me to show up on all things related to Chans.

I have programmed a new content rating system to the board. From now on, all Chans will be rated on the type of content found (G, R, XX). You are welcome to set your own rating, but I will of course change the rating to fit.

Anyway, I don't understand the meaning of the new ranking. Chans with only 1 or 2 pageviews in the top 20? Chans with only 4 pageviews per day, higher than chans with more than 5.000?
What's the point in that?

The system will reward chan owners for creating a good website. It ranks chans according to quality. Chans with better reviews are better quality and will therefore appear higher in the list. Chans that are filled with spam, cp, and virus are going to have worse reviews and appear lower.

Consider this:

I register a new chan, and give myself 5 stars.
I am now at the top of the list (rank is 5)
TopChan users see my chan, visit it and review it.
If my chan is good it stays in the top 20
if my chan sucks it falls off to the bottom.

Chan owners have always had the power to manipulate rankings. This takes away that power and gives it to the 14,000+ visitors that come here each day.

How about you remove all the sites that are 100% made up of content that's "downloads" posted by spammers/spam bots.

It's pretty obvious when you hit a site like this because 9 out of 10 of the sites (especially the porn ones) are like that. A perfect example of every single post being spam is that "porn chan" site. A perfect example of what a real site's posts should look like is "chansluts". The difference is extremely clear. "porn chan" is 99.9% spam posts and chansluts is 0% spam posts.

Another easy way to spot one of these spam sites is to check if there are boards for jailbait, child, teen, or whatever other names they want to use. Ignoring the child porn that's posted to all of these boards (regardless of level of moderation), you will notice that they are also just filled with spam posts for "downloads".

In regards to the spam, some of the "non-porn" chan sites listed here are the same way.

If you see a SPAM CHAN or one with questionable content, give it a bad review. If enough people feel the same way, then CHAN will eventually drop off the list.
